In Tarot (Major Arcana), II The High Priestess, is the feminine, subconscious mind of Number 1, The Magician. Fruitfulness of body or mind, harnessed to sensitive intuition. she is the virgin daughter of the moon and corresponds to all the virgin goddesses of the ancient world and to the Virgin Mary. Behind her are the two pillars of Solomon's Temple - Boaz the blace, to indicate the negative Life-force; and Jachin, the positive. The veil between them, a symbol of virginity, is embriodered with palms (male) and pomegranates (female).

2 is probably the most widely represented number in the natural world. Division into two parts, often opposites in character, is so commonplace as to be unremarkable. There are male and female, night and day, dark and light, high and low, young and old, strong and weak, and so on. Many plants and animals, including humans, are bilaterally symmetrical.

This number is linked to the Moon, being second in importance to the sun in most mythologies. The two points of the arc of the new moon are linked to twins, such as Castor and Pollux, known as Gemini in astrology. But they are also associated with the two horns of the Devil as well as his cloven hooves. Over the centuries, the moon evolved from being a male planet to a symbol of feminity, as its cycle corresponds to the menstrual cycle. It is also regarded as graceful, cool and mystical, essentially feminine attributes.

In Bible, two represents opposites, day and night, man and woman, heaven and earth, good and evil, or the duality in one. People whose number is to have the qualities which are traditionally regarded as feminine. They have soft, sweet natures, quiet, tactful, conciliatory. They are even-tempered, lovers of peace and harmony. They tend to play second fiddle and make excellent subordinates, conscientious, tidy and modest. They are followers rather than leaders, and if they do get their own way they do it by persuasion and diplomacy, not by asserting themselves.

In modern numerology, 2 is associated with archetypal female attributes: sensitivity, tact, emotional nautre, timidity, tolerance, cooperativity, patience, diplomacy, receptivity, etc. Many of these attributes are denigratory to women, as are the attributes of duplicity, dissension, discord, and so on, which are also traditionally associated with 2.

Esoterically, 2 is the descent of spirit into matter, the great feminine mystery of recreation, the waters under the firmament divided from the waters above the firmament, the silent and secret, the innermost, the sleeping princess, Mary Magdalene and the blessed Virgin Mary, the two columns of the Masonic Lodge, the Jachin and Boaz; where 1 is the head and the crown, 2 is the heart and the cross. 2 is also associated with tolerance, tact and stillness.

People govern by this number has strong intuition, deep powers of thought and notable sensitivity, and a tendency to underestimate oneself and difficulties in standing one's ground. Two's colour is white and other pale watery shades, which suggests fair skin which does not like sunlight, lacks vibrancy, and a soft voice which is rarely used to make a forceful point or to defend oneself.

Often they are shy and self-conscious. They are likely to change their minds frequently and to put things off and generally shilly-shally. There is also a dark and sinister side to the 2-character which may show itself in cruelty, malice and deceit.
